This session explores unlocking purposeful teaching through respectful relationships, focusing on how people learn best. Participants will define assent and motivation, clarify goals and priorities, and reflect on curiosity in teaching. Key ideas: learners cannot be receptive when defensive, stressed, or disengaged—assent and motivation foster happiness, comfort, and engagement, which maximize teaching opportunities. In special education, assent is learner agreement (verbal or nonverbal), distinct from consent. Motivation drives active participation and sustained learning. Strategies include building structure, using achievable steps, honoring feelings, compromising, and maintaining expectations to promote respect, comfort, and growth.

Every educator carries a “purse”—a symbolic container of responsibilities, emotions, and expectations. Over time, without realizing it, we toss in too much—other people’s problems, workplace politics, unrealistic demands, self-doubt—until it’s overflowing. This keynote helps educators unpack that purse, get rid of the unnecessary weight, and repack with purpose, joy, and resilience.

MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) in preschool focuses on providing a structured framework for addressing the diverse needs of young children through a combination of behavioral interventions and instructional strategies. It emphasizes the use of BIRs (behavior incident reporting system) to analyze data and identify biases and needs for support of varying levels. Additionally, the approach incorporates the principles of prevention, teaching, and reinforcement to foster positive behaviors and learning outcomes. By implementing these strategies, educators aim to create an inclusive environment that promotes the social, emotional, and academic development of all preschoolers.

Through engaging activities—including finger plays, hand-strengthening exercises, and hand-separation tasks. Attendees will learn practical strategies that can be easily integrated into early childhood classrooms. This session emphasizes the importance of providing children with intentional fine motor experiences that build strength, coordination, and independence.

Inclusion in early education starts with the spaces where children learn, play, and grow. Classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, and community areas all shape belonging and access. This presentation explores how intentional design—universally accessible play, flexible learning zones, cultural representation, and sensory support—removes barriers and fosters participation. Through practical examples, participants will see how small shifts in the built environment strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion. When viewed as an active partner in teaching and caregiving, the physical environment helps create spaces where all children and families feel welcomed, valued, and able to thrive.

Outdoor learning in pre-K is an educational approach that uses the natural environment as a classroom, allowing young children to explore, play, and learn outside. Rather than being confined to a desk, children engage with the world through hands-on, multi-sensory experiences, such as a nature walk, planting a garden, and taking centers outside. Using outdoor learning and by getting off the rug children are able to self regulate through the sounds of nature, allowing for more pleasant experiences for both the students and the teachers.
